Self-Drop Baggage Machines for Easy Check-in Launched by DIAL

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) announced on Tuesday the launch of a new self-service mechanism that enables passengers to drop off their luggage, collect tags, and print boarding passes, significantly reducing the check-in process time from one minute to just 30 seconds.

With this new one-step quick baggage drop solution, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport becomes the first facility in the country and the second globally, after Toronto Airport in Canada, to offer such a solution. The airport has installed around 50 Self-Service Bag Drop (SSBD) units across Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, currently available for passengers flying with Air India, IndiGo, and Air India Express.

The conventional check-in process, which takes about one minute, involves bypassing check-in desks, printing boarding passes, and collecting baggage tags at common-use self-service (CUSS) kiosks. With the new quick drop solution, passengers simply scan their boarding passes or use face biometric cameras at the baggage drop units and proceed to place their bags on the conveyor belt.

To further streamline the process, DIAL’s quick drop solution eliminates the need for boarding passes or biometric validation, as these details are already available on the baggage tag. This innovation reduces the processing time from about a minute to just 30 seconds.

“We have introduced the Self-Service Bag Drop Quick Drop Solution at Delhi Airport, setting a new standard for passenger convenience and efficiency in India. This initiative leverages advanced technology to enhance the travel experience,” said Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO of DIAL. “The Quick Drop Solution not only speeds up the baggage drop process but also ensures a smoother journey for our passengers.”
